Welcome to Yoga for Beginners

First of all I want to thank you for visiting our Yoga for Beginners website. I am a yoga enthusiast and would like to share, hopefully, useful information with you.
To me Yoga is the only sports activity, which can suit almost anyone. It can help people to overcome a lot of things in their lives. It can help you to start doing any sport activity if you have not been doing it for some time. It also can help people in their busy life to overcome stress and look clearer on what is happening around them.

There are a lot of streams of Yoga, including extreme branches, like Hot Yoga, when you do all exercises in extreme hot temperature.

Actual word ‘yoga’ came from ‘yoke’, which means join or attach to something and mainly defines a system of abstract meditation or mental abstraction from the real world to become more whole in your spiritual world.

The Aim of Yoga

yoga for beginnersThere are different views on the aim of it and they really vary from simply using yoga for health benefits to cleaning your soul so your soul can join the whole universe in a spiritual way.
To say it in simple word the main purpose of Yoga practitioner is to achieve a state of perfect spiritual insight through meditation. But you need to remember that it is a long path and you need to have a very strong will and self-discipline.

Yoga History

We are not going to cover the whole history of yoga here as you can find more detailed description of it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yoga#History. We will say only that scientists found sites, which were dated to the mid 3000 BC with pictures, which resemble with modern yoga poses.
In medieval period Hinduism developed so-called Bhatki movement, which then developed in the concept of ‘Four Yogas’ from 1890. Those four are Karma Yoga, Bhakti Yoga, Raja Yoga, Jnana Yoga.
Another known branch is called Hatha Yoga and was first found in Buddhist’s texts dating to the 11th century. The idea of it is to achieve purification of the mind through purification of your body.
The history of yoga includes many interesting facts, so we advise you to read an article going to the page mentioned above.

Benefits of Yoga

benefits of yogaThe main goal is that, using yoga exercises, you can unite your mind and body. But let’s look at it from a practical point of view. There are many health benefits that yoga can help you to get. As mentioned above, it can help you with your physical activity as it is very easy to start doing it and it will bring you back to more active life.

Again, as mentioned above, it can help you to overcome a lot of stress, which many people face in this fast modern life. It can help you to clear your mind, so you will start looking at stressful situations differently.

You can use yoga to lose weight as stretching helps to lose a lot of calories and it also helps your mind to become stronger. A lot of yoga practitioners say that as a side effect of it they were starting to eat less and by some reason they were surprised that after couple of months they were switching to much healthier diet, excluding foods like French fries, burgers etc.

Yoga also improves confidence in people as when they achieve new levels in it, they start thinking that they now can do anything they want. And this is actually true, as the main obstacle, which prevents us to get somewhere we would like to be is actually our mind. All doubts it brings to our lives are preventing us from doing a lot of things.

Many people say that it also helps them with their relationships as it makes anger to go away and it helps you to see what other people want. But as you might already know, when you see this, it is much easier to avoid unnecessary conflicts in your day-to-day life.

Yoga for children is also a very good practice as it helps your kids to do exercises, to bring up their self-esteem, to get them out of their room and away from a computer. It also helps them to relax and do something useful instead of wasting time doing nothing.

It is very good for achieving muscular flexibility, improving your heart rate, breathing system and many more.

There are a lot of other yoga health benefits, which we can talk about, like yoga mental health benefits, but we would not have enough time to cover all of them in this article. We will try to cover most of them in the future, so please come back to our blog to get more information on what Yoga can do for beginners. But for now we strongly advise you to find local yoga classes and consider joining them to see what benefits you can get from it for yourself.
